Waterproofing
The Kyathsandra yard stocks or supplies to order cementitious crystalline coatings, acrylic elastomeric terrace waterproofing, polyurethane liquid-applied membranes, bitumen self-adhesive and torch-applied membranes, integral concrete waterproofing admixtures, crack-injection grouts and bathroom puddle-flange systems. Despatch corridors from Tumakuru cover Bengaluru, Mysuru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Kochi on a regular rotation, with particular volume in the coastal cities of Mangaluru, Kochi and Kozhikode where monsoon and salt exposure drive waterproofing demand.

For homeowners and small-project buyers
A residential waterproofing failure almost always reduces to one of three situations: a leaking terrace, a wet bathroom wall or a damp basement. Each situation has a specific system and a specific sequence, and substituting across the three categories is the most common mistake at site. A terrace needs a membrane-based system designed for UV exposure and thermal cycling; a bathroom needs a bonded coating designed to carry tile overlay; a basement needs a crystalline cementitious system designed to resist hydrostatic pressure from the outside.
For a terrace waterproofing job on an existing house, begin with a full dismantling of any earlier failed treatment, repair any cracks with polymer-modified mortar, apply a primer matched to the finish system, and then apply two or three coats of acrylic elastomeric terrace coating such as Dr Fixit Raincoat or Asian SmartCare Damp Proof at six to eight hours between coats. A reinforcing fibre-mesh embedded in the second coat at wall-floor junctions and around all outlets is non-negotiable; cracks propagate at these junctions first and the mesh distributes the stress. Protect the membrane from foot traffic with a cement screed or a clay-tile overlay.
For a bathroom waterproofing job on a new floor, lay a cementitious waterproof slurry coating such as Dr Fixit Pidifin or Sika Seal 107 directly onto the prepared slab, two coats with a twenty-four-hour interval, extending up the walls to a height of 300 millimetres at all wet areas and up to the full shower height at the shower enclosure. The coating must be tile-compatible under EN 14891 and must be allowed to cure fully before tile-laying begins. A puddle flange around every floor drain provides the second line of defence against floor-trap leakage.
For a basement or plinth-level waterproofing issue on an existing house, the remedy is a cementitious crystalline system such as Dr Fixit Pidicrete URP or Xypro applied on the positive side (outside) where accessible, and a negative-side crystalline treatment such as Xypro Admix cross-referenced to the specific problem area where the outside is not accessible. Crystalline systems react with free lime in the concrete to grow calcium silicate crystals that block water pathways; they work only on cementitious substrates and will not bond to plastics, paints or loose surfaces.
For contractors and site engineers
Waterproofing specification on a commercial or institutional project is governed by the substrate, the service environment, the required warranty period and the design pressure. The substrate is either cementitious (concrete slab, plaster, block wall) or metallic (gutter, roof deck, tank shell). The service environment covers exposure class, thermal range, UV exposure, chemical exposure and foot-traffic or vehicle load. The required warranty runs from five years for residential acrylic systems through twenty years for premium polyurethane liquid membranes.
System selection follows the exposure class and the design pressure. Cementitious crystalline systems under ASTM C946 are suitable for below-grade negative-pressure applications, water-retaining structures and tunnel linings, with design pressures up to 12 bar hydrostatic. Acrylic elastomeric coatings under ASTM C1305 are suitable for above-grade terrace and parapet waterproofing with UV exposure, with design service life of five to ten years. Polyurethane liquid-applied membranes under ASTM C836 are suitable for podium decks, green roofs, planters and plaza decks, with design service life of fifteen to twenty-five years. Torch-applied and self-adhesive bitumen membranes under ASTM D6163 and ASTM D1970 are suitable for roof overlays and waterproofing under screed protection.
Tile-bonded applications under EN 14891 require a specific class of membrane: Class CM1P for cement-based one-component coatings, Class DM1P for dispersion-based one-component, Class RM1P for reaction-resin. The test programme under EN 14891 includes crack-bridging at ambient and low temperature, water impermeability and thermal ageing, and is the correct specification standard for any membrane that will carry tile overlay directly above.
Concrete admixtures for integral waterproofing fall into three categories under IS 2645: water-reducers that lower permeability by reducing water-cement ratio, pore-blockers that physically fill capillary pores, and hydrophobic admixtures that line pore walls with water-repellent films. Integral admixtures are not a replacement for surface waterproofing on exposed elements; they supplement the waterproofing strategy by producing a denser base concrete, and are particularly valuable in water-retaining structures, basement walls and foundation rafts.
Flood testing under ASTM D5957 is the standard field verification method for waterproofing on flat slabs. A water-tight temporary dam is constructed at all edges and around penetrations, the slab is flooded with water to a depth of at least 50 millimetres above the highest point, and the slab is inspected from below for 24 to 72 hours. Pass-fail criteria are visible water penetration or measurable water loss beyond evaporation; the test is mandatory for commercial podium and roof slabs.
Governing standards referenced in this category are ASTM C836 for polyurethane liquid-applied, ASTM C898 for reinforced liquid-applied, ASTM C946 for cementitious crystalline, EN 14891 for tile-bonded membranes, EN 13967 for damp proofing plastic sheets and ASTM D5957 for flood testing.
